Hello, here’s what has been going on recently at Firth & Co…
Many of you will have spoken to or had communication from our Office Manager, Callum Bowers, a local lad who previously worked at Lewis & Cooper in Northallerton, he has settled in well and we are glad to have him in the team.
Our latest big news is that our online shop has gone live, the thanks to that are to my daughter Flora who has worked very hard with Click Through Digital to finish this and we are all very proud of the website, a few more wines to add but it is up and running. Tell all your friends to click on www.firthandco.com.
The shipping of wines from Europe and further afield to the UK has slowly got easier and the flow of wines is much better. A few regions of Europe and even New Zealand had some vintage shortages with the 2021 harvest, but all looking much better for 2022.
The Yorkshire restaurant trade despite what you read in the media, seems to be thriving, more and more great places to eat and drink. We are chuffed senseless to say we supply many of these restaurants and hotels, thank you for your support. It isn’t easy for them at the moment with staff shortages and the cost of turning on the lights etc.
My co-director Will Tilling was selected and invited to attend the annual Champagne Academy week in Reims in June. This entails visiting all of the Grande Marque Champagne Houses and eating and drinking some of the regions finest foods and Champagne for a week, then have an exam at the end of it. Of course Will passed with flying colours, if you want to know anything about Champagne, then just ask him, he knows it all now!
What to drink you say? White grape varietals on the up Godello from Spain, Vermentino from Italy, Chardonnay from anywhere, rosé wine with ice cubes on a hot day, its allowable on hot days. Red wines led by Malbec from Argentina, Côtes du Rhône wines selling well and a bit more interest with the great wines of South Africa.
I hope you enjoy ‘surfing’ the website and look forward to hearing from you.
All best wishes,
Andrew Firth
