Rich, warming and beautifully indulgent, Malamado Fortified Malbec is a distinctive dessert wine from the renowned Argentine producer Familia Zuccardi. Made from 100% Malbec grapes grown in the Uco Valley of Mendoza, it offers a delicious alternative to traditional Port, combining the deep, generous fruit character of Argentina’s signature red grape with the richness and complexity of a fortified wine. The wine is made using traditional fermentation techniques, with fermentation stopped by the addition of grape spirit to retain natural residual sweetness. It is then matured for just over two years in aged French oak barrels, allowing the flavours to develop additional depth and complexity while softening the wine’s texture. Deep purple in colour, Malamado opens with inviting aromas of ripe plum, dried fig and nuts, complemented by warming hints of cinnamon and toasted almonds. The palate is full-bodied, sweet and velvety, with concentrated dark-fruit flavours balanced by a gentle spicy character and a long, satisfying finish. A wonderful after-dinner wine, Malamado is particularly delicious served alongside dark chocolate desserts, rich chocolate cake, dried fruits and creamy or mature cheeses. Familia Zuccardi is one of Argentina’s most respected wine-producing families, with a history dating back to 1963, when Alberto Zuccardi established the family’s first vineyard in Mendoza. Today, the winery is led by the third generation, with Sebastián Zuccardi playing a leading role in developing wines that express the distinctive character of Argentina’s vineyards.

Based in Mendoza, the family has become particularly well regarded for its work in the Uco Valley, where high-altitude vineyards, alluvial soils and the dramatic Andean landscape provide ideal conditions for producing expressive wines.

Malamado is a pioneering project for the winery: its name is derived from Malbec à la mode, reflecting its interpretation of fortified wine using Argentina’s celebrated Malbec grape. The result is a distinctive sweet red that combines traditional fortified winemaking with the rich fruit character of Mendoza.
