Discover the elegance and character of Bordeaux’s Right Bank with Château La Croix St André, an expressive red wine from the prestigious Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation. Situated just north of the renowned Pomerol vineyards, this distinguished wine showcases the richness, finesse and distinctive character that have made this area of Bordeaux famous among wine enthusiasts.
Owned by the Carayon family since 1965, Château La Croix Saint André benefits from an exceptional vineyard location in Néac, where the combination of clay, gravel and iron-rich soils provides ideal conditions for producing concentrated and beautifully balanced Bordeaux wines. Some of the estate’s vines are particularly old, contributing additional depth and complexity to the resulting wines. Traditionally centred around Merlot, the wine reflects the characteristic style of the Right Bank, combining generous dark-fruit flavours with elegance, structure and approachable tannins. Careful vineyard management, hand harvesting and considered oak maturation help preserve the purity of the fruit while adding depth and subtle complexity. In the glass, Château La Croix St André reveals an attractive deep ruby-red colour, followed by an inviting bouquet of ripe blackcurrant, dark cherry, blackberry and plum. Subtle notes of spice and oak add further interest, creating an appealing aromatic profile. The palate is generous, smooth and beautifully rounded, with layers of concentrated dark fruit supported by supple tannins, balanced acidity and a delicate touch of oak. Elegant yet satisfying, it offers the richness expected of Lalande-de-Pomerol while remaining wonderfully approachable. A versatile and characterful Bordeaux red, Château La Croix St André is an excellent companion to roast meats, grilled steaks, lamb and traditional French cuisine. Equally enjoyable for a relaxed evening or a special dinner, it offers an appealing introduction to the elegance of Bordeaux’s Right Bank.Château La Croix St André 2018 is a beautifully deep ruby-red Bordeaux with an expressive bouquet of ripe blackberries, blackcurrant and dark cherry. Château La Croix Saint André is a family-owned wine estate situated in Néac, in the heart of the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. The Carayon family has owned and managed the property since 1965, developing its reputation for producing expressive wines that reflect the distinctive character of the local terroir.
The estate’s vineyards benefit from a particularly favourable location close to the celebrated Pomerol plateau. Its varied soils, including clay, gravel and siliceous subsoils with iron-rich concretions, provide excellent conditions for cultivating Merlot and other traditional Bordeaux grape varieties.
The vineyard includes some particularly old vines, with certain parcels dating back more than a century. These older plantings contribute to the concentration and complexity associated with the estate’s wines.
Harvesting is carried out by hand, with careful attention given to preserving the quality and character of the grapes. The winemaking approach combines traditional Bordeaux techniques with modern methods of extraction and maturation. Oak-barrel ageing adds structure, subtle spice and complexity while allowing the natural fruit expression to remain at the forefront.
With its emphasis on Merlot, elegant structure and carefully managed oak influence, Château La Croix Saint André offers an appealing expression of Lalande-de-Pomerol and the distinctive winemaking heritage of Bordeaux’s Right Bank
