More Information
Château de la Gardine Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge is a rich, expressive and beautifully structured red wine from one of the Southern Rhône’s most celebrated appellations. Produced by the Brunel family, whose winemaking heritage stretches back generations, it captures the warmth and character of Châteauneuf-du-Pape while retaining an appealing elegance and freshness.
The traditional cuvée brings together four grape varieties: Grenache (60%), Syrah (20%), Mourvèdre (15%) and Muscardin (5%). Each contributes something distinctive: Grenache provides generous red and dark fruit, Syrah adds spice and structure, Mourvèdre brings depth and complexity, while Muscardin contributes aromatic nuance.
The vineyards draw character from a remarkable variety of Southern Rhône soils. The famous rounded stones, or galets roulés, help give the wine body and structure; limestone contributes freshness and minerality, while sandy soils bring finesse and elegance. The grapes are hand-harvested in small crates, carefully sorted and blended before fermentation. The wine is then matured for 9–14 months in tanks and oak barrels, allowing its flavours to integrate while preserving the character of the fruit.
Deep purple in colour, the wine opens with an intense bouquet of black fruits, exotic spices and roasted notes, alongside hints of cocoa, black liquorice and violet. The palate is generous and full-bodied, with rich fruit, silky tannins and a harmonious balance of power and freshness. With bottle age, the tannins soften and more savoury notes of leather, liquorice and woodland develop.
A superb choice for hearty dishes and special meals, Château de la Gardine is particularly well suited to Provençal beef stew, roast lamb, grilled red meats, feathered game and mature cheeses.

Château de la Gardine is a historic family estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, owned by the Brunel family, whose winemaking roots date back to 1670. Today, the estate is run by members of the Brunel family, continuing a tradition of producing wines that express the distinctive terroir of the Southern Rhône.
The estate encompasses approximately 50 hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with a further 30 hectares in Rasteau. Its vineyards benefit from a mosaic of soils and exposures, while the family’s approach combines traditional methods, careful grape selection and thoughtful maturation. Château de la Gardine is also recognised for its distinctive, unusually shaped bottles, which have become a hallmark of the estate.
