More Information
Château Clarke Listrac-Médoc is an elegant and characterful Bordeaux red from the prestigious Edmond de Rothschild wine estate. Combining the richness of Merlot with the structure and freshness of Cabernet Sauvignon, it showcases the distinctive personality of the Médoc’s Left Bank while offering a generous, approachable style.
Located in the heart of the Médoc, Château Clarke benefits from a distinctive clay-limestone terroir, which is particularly well suited to Merlot. This is relatively unusual for the Médoc, where Cabernet Sauvignon traditionally dominates, and gives the wine its characteristic combination of ripe fruit, rounded texture and elegant structure. The blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon creates depth and concentration, with Merlot bringing plush dark-fruit flavours and Cabernet Sauvignon contributing definition, freshness and refined tannins. The winemaking combines careful extraction with maturation in French oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop complexity while retaining the purity of its fruit. Château Clarke Listrac-Médoc has aromas of ripe wild berries and blackcurrant are complemented by fresh cedar, subtle vanilla and delicate toasted notes. On the palate, it is rich and full-bodied, with beautifully integrated tannins, balanced acidity and a smooth, persistent finish. Presented in a 1.5L Magnum, this Listrac-Médoc Bordeaux Wine is an excellent choice for special occasions, dinner parties and collectors of classic Bordeaux. The larger format is particularly well suited to cellaring, as wine generally develops more slowly in magnum than in a standard bottle when stored under equivalent conditions. This Premium Bordeaux Magnum is a sophisticated and rewarding Médoc red, combining the heritage of the Rothschild family with the distinctive terroir of Listrac.Château Clarke Listrac-Médoc is beautifully deep crimson-red Bordeaux with an expressive bouquet of ripe wild berries, blackcurrant and dark cherry. Château Clarke Listrac-Médoc is part of the Edmond de Rothschild Heritage collection and has a history stretching back to the eighteenth century. The estate takes its name from the Irish Clarke family, who purchased the property in 1771. In 1973, Baron Edmond de Rothschild acquired the château, beginning a significant period of investment and redevelopment that transformed the vineyards, winery and estate facilities.
Situated in Listrac-Médoc, the property covers approximately 55 hectares of vineyards planted on clay-limestone soils. These conditions are particularly favourable for Merlot, which accounts for 70% of the vineyard planting, with Cabernet Sauvignon making up the remaining 30%. This Merlot-led approach gives Château Clarke a distinctive identity within the Médoc, producing wines that combine generous fruit with classic Bordeaux structure.
The estate places considerable emphasis on precision in the vineyard and winery. Grapes are carefully selected and vinified in a combination of wooden and stainless-steel vats, with controlled extraction to achieve balance and concentration. The wine is traditionally matured for around 16 months in French oak barrels, allowing it to gain texture, complexity and subtle aromatic depth.
Today, Château Clarke is recognised as an important reference point for Listrac-Médoc, producing wines that express the character of its clay-limestone terroir while maintaining the elegance and craftsmanship associated with the Edmond de Rothschild name.
