Château Macquin has a long history in the Bordeaux wine region, with its origins dating back to the late nineteenth century. The estate was established by François-Albert Macquin, an agricultural engineer remembered for his important role in restoring the vineyards of Saint-Émilion and Libourne following the phylloxera crisis. Today, the property remains under family management.
Located in Saint-Georges, approximately three kilometres north of Saint-Émilion, the estate’s vineyards benefit from an elevated position and south-facing slopes. The clay and limestone soils provide favourable conditions for Merlot and Cabernet varieties, helping produce wines that combine concentration with freshness.
The estate’s vineyards are sustainably managed, with a focus on maintaining the health of the vines and their surrounding environment. Winemaking combines traditional Bordeaux techniques with modern temperature-controlled fermentation. A proportion of the wine is matured in French oak barrels, adding structure and complexity while allowing the fruit character to remain prominent.
