More Information

Château Macquin is a characterful Right Bank Bordeaux that combines the generous fruit and supple texture of Merlot with the structure and freshness of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Produced in the small appellation of Saint-Georges-Saint-Émilion, just north of the celebrated Saint-Émilion vineyards, it offers an appealing expression of classic Bordeaux with depth, concentration and plenty of charm. The blend is led by 80% Merlot, supported by 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Grown on south-facing clay and limestone slopes, the grapes benefit from favourable exposure and soils that help give the wine both richness and freshness. The Merlot brings ripe, rounded fruit and a generous mid-palate, while the Cabernet varieties add aromatic lift, spice and structure. In the glass, Château Macquin displays an inviting deep ruby colour. The nose is expressive, with ripe raspberry and blackcurrant aromas complemented by cinnamon, pepper and subtle oak. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, revealing flavours of cassis, dark berries and a savoury hint of tobacco. Silky tannins and refreshing acidity provide balance, leading to a long, persistent finish. A versatile and satisfying Bordeaux, Château Macquin is an excellent partner for roast lamb, grilled steak, slow-cooked beef, game and mature cheeses. Its combination of ripe fruit, polished tannins and understated oak makes it equally enjoyable for a special dinner or a relaxed evening with good food.
