More Information
La Rioja Alta Viña Arana Gran Reserva Rioja is a superb expression of traditional Rioja winemaking. This elegant red combines the elegance of Tempranillo with the aromatic finesse of Graciano. Crafted by one of Spain’s most respected historic wineries, this sophisticated red showcases the character of Rioja Alta, bringing together beautifully developed fruit, complex oak influences and a freshness that gives the wine remarkable balance.
This Spanish Gran Reserva Red is produced from carefully selected vineyards in Rodezno and Fuenmayor, where the combination of altitude, climate and varied soils helps create grapes with excellent aromatic concentration and natural acidity. Tempranillo provides the wine’s generous red and dark fruit character, while a small proportion of Graciano adds freshness, aromatic complexity and structure.
Traditional winemaking is central to the Viña Arana style. Following careful grape selection and controlled fermentation, the wine is matured for an extended period in American oak barrels. The traditional approach includes regular racking from barrel to barrel, allowing the wine to develop complexity and texture while maintaining its distinctive freshness. The result is a beautifully integrated combination of ripe fruit, balsamic character and delicate spice.
In the glass, Viña Arana Gran Reserva reveals layers of raspberry, blackberry, redcurrant and plum, complemented by cedar, vanilla, clove, nutmeg and subtle toasted notes. The palate is elegant and harmonious, with silky tannins, refreshing acidity and a long, polished finish.
This is a Premium Rioja Wine with both immediate appeal and excellent ageing potential. Its balance of fruit, savoury complexity and refined oak makes it a wonderful choice for lovers of classic Spanish wines, whether enjoyed alongside a special meal or savoured slowly over an evening.

Founded in 1890 by five families, La Rioja Alta, S.A. is one of the most distinguished names in Spanish winemaking. Based in Haro, in the heart of Rioja’s historic wine quarter, the winery has built an international reputation for producing elegant, age-worthy wines that combine traditional Rioja craftsmanship with carefully considered modern techniques.
The winery is particularly celebrated for its long-established Gran Reserva wines, including Viña Arana, Gran Reserva 904 and Gran Reserva 890. Its philosophy places great importance on vineyard selection, patient maturation and the careful development of each wine over time.
One of La Rioja Alta’s defining traditions is its use of American oak barrels, many of which are made by its own cooperage. The winery also maintains the traditional practice of manually racking wines between barrels, helping to clarify and refine them during maturation. This combination of craftsmanship and attention to detail contributes to the distinctive elegance and complexity of its mature Riojas.
Viña Arana Gran Reserva reflects this heritage particularly well. It is a wine that celebrates the classic Rioja style, where expressive fruit, subtle oak, freshness and graceful development come together to create something genuinely special.
