More Information

Bacchus 2023, Giffords Hall Vineyard, Suffolk, England
Fresh, aromatic and distinctly English, Giffords Hall Bacchus 2023 is a beautifully expressive white wine from the heart of Suffolk. Made from estate-grown Bacchus grapes, it showcases the variety’s natural aromatic intensity, combining fragrant elderflower and crisp citrus with refreshing acidity and a delicate herbaceous character. The grapes come from vines over 30 years old, rooted in the distinctive soils of Giffords Hall Vineyard. Situated near Hartest in West Suffolk, the estate benefits from an ancient glacial riverbed, whose varied soils and local growing conditions contribute to the character of its wines. The 2023 grapes were carefully hand-picked and fermented at a controlled temperature of 16°C in stainless-steel tanks. This gentle, temperature-controlled approach helps preserve the grape’s delicate floral aromas and vibrant fruit character, resulting in a fresh, clean and expressive wine. In the glass, it displays a pale straw colour with a subtle greenish tint. The nose is lifted and fragrant, revealing elderflower, gooseberry, freshly cut grass and nettle, alongside bright notes of lime and grapefruit. On the palate, crisp acidity brings energy and freshness, while citrus, floral and green-fruit flavours create an elegant, refreshing finish. Dry, light to medium-bodied and wonderfully versatile, this is an excellent example of contemporary English white winemaking. Enjoy it as an aperitif or alongside fresh seafood, grilled prawns, goat’s cheese, asparagus and lightly spiced Asian dishes.
