More Information

On the nose are evident aromas of cherries, raspberries and wild strawberries. This is accompanied by a slight note of red-skinned apples. Full and long, with tangy maturing flavours on the palate, this is curtailed off with a refreshing finish. With a 100% blend of Pinot Noir, the Ambriel Rosé is a vibrant rosehip colour. The Ambriel Rosé is a Traditional Method English Sparkling Rosé crafted from hand-selected Pinot Noir grapes. These are harvested from a single, low-yielding Burgundian Clone (777) from rows 2-39 of the East vineyard. The grapes macerate for 36 hours, then, only the free run is vinified for final bottling as Rosé. Almost five years on the bottle lees lends it a wonderful complexity and a layered taste which speaks to the history of a terroir inhabited by Celts, Romans and Anglo-Saxons before vines were ever planted.

Inspired in name by the wonders of Ambrosia (food of the gods) and the famous angel Gabriel, Charles and Wendy Owthwaite planted their vines of classic sparking varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier in 2008 and have become the English sparkler to rival Champagne.

Overlooking the South Downs National Park, Ambriel have the terroir of choice in England – Greensand. Greensand, combined with the optimal climate of West Sussex, creates a longer ripening period and the best, concentrated flavours in producing exquisite sparkling wine.

Working sympathetically with nature, Ambriel don’t use insecticides or herbicides and promote the wonders biodiversity with the vineyards being the home to beneficial insects, birds, and other wildlife. If you visit in winter, you may come across Ouessant Sheep or Golden Guernsey Goats grazing or browsing the hedges. Whether it’s the award-winning Classic Cuvée or the delights of Cloud Ten, Ambriel has mastered the art of Sparkling Wine.
